U.S. Army Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett worked as a direct support professional in Savannah for two years. She was on military leave and serving overseas when she died.
It is with a heavy heart that we share news of the tragic death of one of our employees, 23-year-old Army Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett of Savannah.
A dedicated direct support professional for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities for the past two years, Breonna was one of three soldiers killed by a military drone attack at a remote outpost in Jordan on January 28. At least 40 other soldiers were reported injured in the attack. The U.S. Department of Defense has confirmed the death of Breonna, and two other Army Reservists.
Jonessa Alexander, UCP of Georgia’s President and CEO, said in a statement, “We are heartbroken over the loss of our colleague, Breonna Moffett. We will forever remember her sacrifice with the deepest respect and gratitude. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Breonna’s family, friends, and coworkers, and offer our support as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.”
UCP of Georgia’s Regional Director in Savannah, Sharon Mitchell, shared, “Breonna was a natural and gifted teacher. She loved teaching new skills like cooking and was a deeply passionate advocate for the people we support, always making sure they were involved in fulfilling activities.”
Breonna’s past awards include the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon. She was a former drum major at Savannah’s Windsor Forest High School. She was an important part of our Cormorant team, and her presence will be deeply missed.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Breonna’s family, friends, and loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.
